this past week we jumped full swing into
the school routine at home.
first up on our list was to discover all we could about castles.
the school routine at home.
first up on our list was to discover all we could about castles.
we took time out one afternoon and went to the local library in neath to check out all the books they had on castles.
we learned about roger of salisbury and henry iv and the seige of 1403 by glyndwr's rebels.
we learned about dungeons and knights and jousting and drawbridges and moats and inner wards and murder hole arches.
we read that wales is known as the land of castles and has more castles per square mile than anywhere in europe.
we looked up what it means to be a well preserved castle and finished the week by taking a special trip to one of the most well preserved castles in wales, kidwelly castle.
here's what we saw...

afterwards, we finished up at a quaint farm shop and cafe where we played, walked around to see the flowers and animals, and topped it all off with a little snack in the cafe.
these castles tell us about wales'
fascinating past.
we can't wait to research some more
and see where we end up next time.
