show love

this morning we took time out to
love on others.

nothing big and fancy

just giving a little gift to
let total strangers know there are
people who care.

that we care.

friday, i gathered some items and
we got busy writing and assembling
everything together with twine.

we wrote handmade notes sharing
how Jesus loves them and so do we.
we also wrote an invite to visit
our church if they ever feel interested.

we had enough to make seven gifts.

•seven gifts for seven sweet souls•

this morning we all got up and drove into town. we said a small prayer before we got out of the car. I told the kids to really listen for God to show them who to bless.

we walked down two streets together.

we stopped seven different people.

each time we got different responses.
some were overly happy.
some were shocked that anyone
would ever do this sort of thing.
some were humbled to tears.

one person even came back to us and blessed us with a special pocket knife he had tucked away in his pocket.
my boys were ecstatic!

•two people actually said, "no thank you."•
seriously?!

that's not what you want your kids to hear when you're trying to teach them to
love people they don't even know.

maybe it's part of what God wants us to experience.
that's what i'm beginning to believe.

it was definitely a teaching opportunity, though.
one of my kids wanted to quit
right then and there.

i encouraged us all to continue with what we set out to do and said that some people in life won't love you back.

we still have to show the love of Jesus

honestly, i don't feel comfortable when
my family and i are in vulnerable
situations like this.

i feel God is teaching us something when we step out in faith and do it anyway.

more than anything, i want to teach my kids that sometimes situations in life take courage.

something i don't always have.

something they won't always have.

it's at that moment that we have to rely on
Him to give us all the courage we'll ever need.
