the sign around my neck

it was last minute.
right smack downtown
at one of the busiest times of the year.
~the neath street fair and market~

God had put in our spirit what to do...
hang signs around our necks with the words
*need prayer?*

love people as they walk by.
look in their eyes.
smile.
pray for people.

that sounds easy enough.

until it wasn't.

it felt awkward and uncomfortable
and messy as we stood there being
rejected
over and over and over again
as hundreds of people passed by.
it felt like they rejected us.
our kids.
they rejected any hope we tried to give.

the rain poured down on us until the signs around our necks became a wet mess.

but a few people stopped.

"I need prayer." one sweet little lady said.

so we prayed for her back to be healed.
we prayed for another's much needed job.
we prayed for a woman to find
 a godly man.
we prayed for someone to have peace.
we prayed for wisdom and direction
to be given.
we gave them a little bit of Jesus.
the only real hope.

as the time passed, the uncomfortable
became comfortable.

i'm grateful He nudged me to step out of my comfort zone for just a little while.

looking back, He was giving us a small glimpse of how it feels to be rejected.
maybe that's just how God feels each time someone passes Him up.
He is hope for the hopeless,
but they walk on by.

i think this day was more for us than the people.
a time for us to be obedient even when we aren't comfortable.

what is God calling you to do?
get uncomfortable for a minute.
do it all for God!

  1. That's one thing I've learned is the beginning of something is the hardest part...just starting can seem overwhelming and uncomfortable, but God always moves in those moments.. This is awesome, and you know those people were encouraged!
Thanks for encouraging me today as well ;)
